Mission Written up in ODU Nursing Magazine

For several years a group of nursing students from ODU have been involved in the Mission weeknight programs.  They help with tutoring and health education.  A recent issue of the ODU nursing magazine featured an article on the students' work with the Mission and other community programs.  The article starts on page 8.  Check it out!

First Annual Mission Benefit Dinner

On June 9th, the first annual Mission Benefit Dinner was held at Old Donation Episcopal Church.  Over 100 people attended.  The dinner was in honor of the Reverends Julia and Bev Tucker, and Father Bill Starkey.

Bev and Julia have been with Mission since the early days, serving as mentors and inspiration for many.  Bev still comes to the Mission on a regular basis to celebrate the Eucharist.  Julia is there as well, giving the kids hope through her unflagging faith and love.

At the dinner, the Mission Choir put on a performance that was extremely well received.  Stay tuned for the 2nd Annual Mission Dinner next year!

Seven Mission members confirmed by Bishop Hollerith

Seven members of the Mission of the Holy Spirit were confirmed by Bishop Hollerith this morning at All Saints' Episcopal Church in VB. The seven people had attended class for several weeks in preparation for today's event. Pam Conlon from All Saints' shepherded the process through, with help from Keith Josey and several others.

An Outing for the Younger Kids

IssueTrak, a software company in Town Center, VB, invited kids from the Mission to come over and work on Christmas cards, have lunch, watch a movie, and get some ping pong in. Deb Gillies, the HR manager at IssueTrak, planned the outing with Pam, a Mission volunteer. Shiroxi and Mrs. Williams brought the kids over. A lively good time was had by all (VERY lively!).

Trip to see Christmas lights

Last night the nursing students accompanied Mission kids to see the Christmas lights at the Botanical Gardens. Here is a report from Pam:

We had an awesome time, we were one bunch of happy folks. The nursing students went above and beyond, the result being a warm, fuzzy memorable event. Lights, music, laughter, playing, friends, family, great food, yummy desserts.....Christmas.

Thank you Ann and students, we felt the love.
